One of my best friends (and co-author with me on the Sacred Search Couple’s Conversation Guide), Dr. Steve Wilke, once shocked a church when they asked him about pre-nuptial agreements before marriage. They all expected him, as a Christian writer and speaker and counselor, to come out strongly against them.
He began by saying, “I’m all for them.”
Many people gasped.
Steve continued, “I would want to say to my future bride, ‘If I ever break the covenant of marriage, you deserve everything. I want to give it all to you, and I’ll walk away with just the shirt on my back.’”
That’s an entirely different spirit, isn’t it? He’s not trying to protect his assets from his future wife; he’s trying to protect his future wife from his future sin. He wants to make the consequences of unfaithfulness so painful that he’ll think twice before he reaches for his zipper in an unfamiliar house.
That sounds like a wonderfully counter-intuitive, godly way to look at it, don’t you think?
So, if you must sign a pre-nuptial agreement, make it painful. Do it to protect your future spouse, not your bank account.

Mike Time, I don’t think you read this in the spirit in which it is intended.
