Grandparents and picture taking are almost as synonymous as swimming and water. I marvel at my compulsion to show others the latest adorable pictures of our grandchildren. I know most people are likely uninterested or even annoyed by this obsession, but I can’t help it. I have to show them off! They’re too cute not to!
Lisa and I talk about our grandchildren a lot. We think about fun things we can do the next time we visit. One time I went to a toy store and bought two puppets to surprise three-year-old Anna on a FaceTime call. I didn’t even ask the price before I went up to the sales register. If they would make Anna smile, they were worth it.

Neither Anna nor especially the baby James could possibly know how often they get talked about, how much they are prayed for, or how often we think about them. They are adored, cherished, and treasured in a way they will never understand until they are themselves grandparents.
As I was praying recently, it hit me: what if God loves us like Lisa and I love Anna and James? What if God anticipates our pleasure and goes out of his way to accommodate our pleasure? What if God wants to give us good gifts and spends time thinking about fun things he can do for us? What if God is just waiting for us to “visit” so he can lavish us with his affection, interest, and time?
Of course, God loves us infinitely more than we can love our grandchildren so it was such a marvelous exercise to think of God’s love for us in those terms.
