God’s Promises
Wishful thinking in a fallen world is just as likely to cultivate despair as it is to bring comfort: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick” (Proverbs 13:12). I’m not calling anyone to that. On the contrary, I’m calling us to still our fears and address our heartache with solid promises from God’s Word. This is a long list, but it’s an inspired one, far more helpful than my own words could ever be. For your own sake, please don’t skip through it (an editor once warned me, “almost nobody actually reads the Bible verses in a book,” but I hope he’s wrong, at least in this case):
