This is part three of our excerpt (post 1, post 2) from The Life You Were Reborn to Live on the need to value and grow in our pursuit of wisdom. Is how we spend our time, and what we think on, shaped more by our culture than God’s priorities? It’s so easy to slip into being conformed by this world instead of transformed by the renewing of our minds. If we’re not careful, we’re going to gradually be shaped into “good little citizens of the world” who believe just what the world wants us to believe, who value just what the world wants us to value, and who prioritize just what the world wants us to prioritize.
There’s a sad and mistaken strain of faith that discounts “head knowledge” as inferior to heart change. The Bible doesn’t put one over the other and neither should we. Jesus said, “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Our “head” can lead, inform and guard our heart while our heart is essential to keep our head thinking straight. When our passions go awry, we can convince ourselves of anything. The head and heart complement each other; they are not competitors.
When it comes to revival—great outpourings of ministry and a widespread response to the word of God—most people think the key is prayer. “Pray, pray, pray,” they’ll say, and I agree. Prayer is powerful, commanded, and should be a daily staple for earnest believers.
But what if there’s more to revival than prayer?
