Lisa and I are regular listeners of the Megyn Kelly show, and several times she has asked Christian guests how we can process the early death of someone like Charlie Kirk. Where was God in that? How can we explain it? I’m not in the universe of her normal guests and don’t expect that she’ll ever hear this, but she’s asking an earnest question and I kind of wished she could have received some more convincing answers.
A Christian’s view of death is about the most radical of all our beliefs. I lean heavily on a wonderful chapter by Dr. J.I. Packer on his “third birthday” in my attempt to demonstrate that our confusion about death springs from our weakened understanding about heaven, God building His church, and the way the Holy Spirit continues to call forth those whom He needs to build His church. Packer suggests that if we truly understood what lies ahead, we would clap at the wake of a faithful servant of God. I end this short video with a reminder of what the Christian classics call the spiritual discipline of the remembrance of death–an essential practice for an overcoming life.
