I’ve finished my first solid draft on the working title: When Christian Parents Hurt. The focus is on Christian parents with adult children who are making choices that are breaking their parents’ hearts. This book is not a “how to” fix the relationship or your adult child; it’s on helping parents come to grips with their own guilt and pain, stabilize and grow in their love of God, and forge a path for the future. It’s a pastoral book that seeks to bring comfort, healing, hope, and encouragement, while also gently leading parents to come to grips with their parental failures.
The review group we set up for The Life You Were Reborn to Live was so helpful that we’d like to repeat it for this book. Because of the comments I received on that book in progress, we radically altered the first few chapters, and I even ended up quoting some of those comments in the final manuscript. As I enter the rewriting phase, I want feedback of all kinds—what you think sounds off, boring, particularly helpful, not helpful, unclear —you name it—to help us refine it.
If you’re chosen, we will send you a private link to a Google Doc. You can make comments right on the document. Please be advised: we encourage others to respond to your comments. People may agree or disagree with you. If you’re not comfortable with this practice (having your opinions challenged), it’s probably best to steer clear of this opportunity.
This group is for those who want to interact and comment on the manuscript-in-process, not for those who simply want to read an early draft copy. We will select 20 people based on demographics. While it will be helpful to have some parents of adult children who would be the natural audience for this book, I think it would also be ideal to have some young adults who might want to add their perspective, perhaps even pushing back on some of the stories or advice.
