As the holiday season is upon us, one of the best things we can do for our families and our own souls is to slow down. Way down. We all know this. We are more attentive lovers to our God, our spouses, our children, and our friends when we’re not rushed, harried, and preoccupied.
But it’s tough for many of us to reach and then stay at this lower gear.
Because I work two jobs (at a church and my own writing/speaking ministry), it’s difficult for me to create margin in my life and sometimes even to observe a Sabbath day. I need a lot of help, so I keep reading books that remind me there’s a better way to live. As you approach this holiday season, I’d like to suggest some books I’ve read (some of which you might have heard me mention before) that keep challenging me not to give up, to pursue a slower, more deliberate, and holier life.
